- *** USING THE USR HST MODEM WITH RRH V2.0 ***
-
- First, this is how I have set the DIP switches on the HST.
- all switches are 'default' except 4, 5, and 6.
-
- 1 DOWN
- 2 UP
- 3 DOWN
- 4 DOWN (modem does not echo- needed for RRH & Tabby)
- 5 UP (modem auto answers on first ring)
- 6 UP (modem detects when carrier is dropped)
- 7 UP
- 8 DOWN
- 9 DOWN
- 10 UP
-
- Then, after doing a AT&F to set the modem to factory settings,
- I type in the following commands:
-
- ATX3 (extended result codes)
- AT&K0 (disable data compression/MNP level 5)
- AT&A0 (disable the /ARQ result code)
- ATS15=2 (disable 7200/4800 fallback)
- ATM3 (speaker only on after dialing, but not when off-hook)
-
- Now, type a AT&W to write the current settings to NRAM.
-
-
- So, here's how the NRAM looks on my HST-
-
- USRobotics Courier 9600 HST NRAM Settings....
-
- DIAL=HUNT M=3 X=3 F=1 B=1
- BAUD=9600 PARITY=N WORDLEN=8
-
- &A0 &B0 &G0 &H0 &I0 &K0
- &M4 &N0 &P0 &R1 &S0 &Y1
-
- S02=043 S03=013 S04=010 S05=008
- S06=002 S07=030 S08=002 S09=006
- S10=007 S11=070 S12=050 S13=000
- S15=002 S19=000 S21=010 S22=017
- S23=019
-
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- In Red Ryder Host, I modified the 3 strings it sends to the modem:
-
- ATQ0S0=1 (this is what RRH sends every 30 seconds to 'refresh' the
- modem)
-
- changed to
- ATZ (makes sure your modem is set-up for RRH or Tabby)
-
-
-
- ATQ1S0=0 (this is what RRH sends to the modem when you Quit RRH or
- sign on locally- there are 2 strings of this)
-
- changed to
- ATH1S0=0 (takes the modem 'off-hook' so folks trying to call
- in get a busy signal)
-
-
- As far as the 'Init modem' & 'Hang Up modem' files for RRH ...
-
- all they contain each is a single 'ATZ'. Really, that's all.

- *** MODIFYING TABBY ROBOT & TABBYNET TO RUN ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS AFTER
- YOU CRASHMAIL ANOTHER SYSTEM, OR YOUR SYSTEM IS CRASHED ***
-
- Here is how I modified the Tabby programs_
-
- Tabby Robot (STR# 301 Resource- last string)
-
- BusyOut,TabbyNet SendNews,TabbyNet SendMail,
- TabbyNet,BusyOut,ArcMail Extract,TabbyNet DeliverMail,
- TabbyNet SendNews,TabbyNet SendMail,Red Ryder Host
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
- This is what the STR s in TabbyNet look like after I modified them:
-
- 305 BusyOut,ArcMail Extract,TabbyNet DeliverMail,
- TabbyNet SendNews,TabbyNet SendMail,Red Ryder Host
-
- (the following string changes are for use with the USR HST modem,
- however they _might_ work correctly with the Hayes 2400 also,
- providing that the hayes is set up correctly with it sored settings.)
-
- 304 +++^x^p^pATZ^m
-
- 303 +++^x^p^pATDT^x (or ...)
-
- *( 303 +++^x^p^pAT&M0DT^x (dial at 2400, no MNP, no 9600) )
-
- 302 +++^x^p^pATZ^m
-
- 301 +++^x^p^pATZ^m
-
- 300 +++^x^p^pATZ^m
-
- *(The reason for an 'alternate string for 303 is in case you want to
- force Tabby to dial at 2400 baud or lower without MNP with the USR
- HST. You might find that 9600 connections or MNP connections cause
- problems sometimes, so this is a way around it for now.)
-
- -------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- The reason I modified the programs Tabbynet and Tabby Robot runs is so
- that if I get new messages during an event, or after Crashing a
- system, those messages are added to the packets for systems that call
- me for new messages.
-
- Actually, if you are not having any other systems get mail from you,
- you don't have to add to the programs that TabbyNet runs after it is
- Crashed, or Tabby Robot runs after it crashes someone else, unless you
- would just like it to run some other program first before returning to
- Red Ryder Host.

- - - - - - - - - - -
- The MODEM7 error message means that when Tabby was attempting to
- determine the name of an incoming attached file, it was unable to do so.
- Also, the "filename" in the error message is correct.
-
- I need a little more information to help run down your problem. What
- baud rate are you running when you're having problems with these file
- transfers? What software is the "Opus" system running? Is it really
- pure Opus? What version of the software is it running?
-
- One possible explanation of your problem with Ed Edell is the abysmal
- quality of the AT&T long-distance service between NJ and the LA area.
- Are you using AT&T as your long-distance carrier (normally the best for
- almost all areas)?
-
- The "Overdrive disengaged" message only appears when using high-speed
- modems. Overdrive is a high-speed variant of the normal SEAlink protocol
- that allows it to run in an ACK'less mode, thereby minimizing line
- turnarounds which slow down "pseudo-full duplex" modems. If ANY problems
- are encountered during the session, due to buffer overflows or even
- normal block retransmissions, Tabby immediately drops out of Overdrive
- to the normal SEAlink protocol to ensure correct transmission of the
- data. Therefore the message is really a normal one and shouldn't cause
- concern, it just means that a less than perfect session has occured.

-
- When you set up a section and an area for UNKNOWN Echo mail, be sure
- that it is the LAST message section you are using. So, it would be a
- good idea to make message section 255 for your unknown Echo mail. This
- way you guarantee to yourself that it has to be the last section.
- _______________________________________________________________________
-
- Be sure that you create a text file named RRHNetMail in the same
- folder with RRH and Tabby. This file should contain a number with the
- message section that you want Tabby to put your private NetMail in.
- _______________________________________________________________________
-
- When setting up Events, do NOT use Special events! Special events are
- really only for use by Tabby Robot and are one of a kind events.
- So, don't use them or create them. You can have SCHEDULES that are
- SPECIAL, that is, say you are calling node XXX everyday from 0900-1000.
- If that node # is entered in the node box of the schedule, when Tabby
- sucessfully completes its session with that node, it will then quit and
- go back to RRH, without waiting until 1000 for that schedule to end.
- _______________________________________________________________________
-
- If you are having a problem with mail being sent during National Mail
- Hour when you intend to send it later in another Event, change your
- National Mail Hour Schedule from ALL to NORMAL.
- _______________________________________________________________________
- All Tabby Sysops should (MUST) observe National Mail Hour! You might
- not like the idea of having your board sit for that one hour most of
- the time, but it is a neccessity! Your node can/will be marked down if
- you do not, and you node number will be removed from the node list.
- This applies to FidoNet and AlterNet. So, make sure you adhere to the
- rules! Also, Standard time is _always_ observed, so if you change your
- clock when Daylight Savings Time comes around, you must alter ALL of
- your Tabby Events and Schedules. It is therefore much easier to keep
- your BBS running on Standard time year-round. Here again are the times
- for NMH based on Standard Time:
-
- Eastern 0400-0500
- Central 0300-0400
- Mountain 0200-0300
- Pacific 0100-0200

-
- There's really no "official" dummy node number that one should use when
- applying for a node number. Just make sure it's a number that isn't
- already used. I usually suggest that people choose a number with the
- correct net number, but a node of 9999. For example, someone applying to
- net 520 would use the number 520/9999. That's usually a safe technique
- to use.

- If you receive GROUP files do the following:
- 1) deARC the file
- 2) Place the deARCed file in your BBS folder
- 3) Open up the Tabby Mail Received file
- 4) Type in the filename to the GROUP file
- 5) Double click on DeliverMail
-
- Make sure you have an area(s) set up for GROUP mail. You can easily check
- what the echo name is by looking at the deARCed file before processing it.
- Tabby, in its current state, can not automatically process GROUP mail.
